Churros

Today, Whisper brought back some take-away Churros from her lunch at Tapeo. Churros are a Mexican-style fried donut. Never one to pass up cinnamon sugar, I gave it a go.
Having spent a considerable amount of time in Los Angeles, I'm pretty accustomed to Mexican food, and consider myself somewhat of a connaisseur. Thus far, Hong Kong has really not achieved perfection in this type of cuisine. Some restaurants make a mean taco while others have worked out the perfect Mexican corn.  Most do make pretty good drinks though.

I've never actually eaten at Tapeo, a Spanish-style tapas restaurant in Central. The churros today were good, but definitely need to be eaten in small portions. Not yet mid-week and our second "cake" so far. Cake on!

Cake on Monday!

You're supposed to eat cake on Friday, not Monday, right?
After lunch today, Peter showed up to work with a big box of snowy mooncakes...'tis the season?
Mooncakes are a type of extremely dense cake typically eaten around the mid-Autumn festival. For more information, wikipedia is a fabulous source: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mooncake

Today's cake was the "snowy" variety, filled with a thick eggy-type filling. Overall tasty but mooncakes are pretty much a heart-attack wrapped in a gooey package. I'm not much of a mooncake afficionado but the Taipan brand was pretty good. Wipe away those Monday blues and cake on!

First cake!

This afternoon, Bugsy (names have been altered to respect the privacy of my colleagues - and our cake-eating habits) came up with the idea that we should..no, we must, institute a Friday afternoon cake habit. Maybe it was the fact that our favoured cafe has been closed for a few weeks and he has been going through bagel-withdrawal. Whatever the reason, the rest of us jumped on board. BooBoo and I (Gippy ) set out in search of the first cake sampling in our cake roulette.
We happened upon Sweet Secrets shop, located just down the road from our office. Being the first of our cake-eating (and exploring), this one was a bit of a fail. The cake was a bit dense, the icing a little too oily, and Bugsy's cheesecake was not cheesecake at all. Will be we returning here? Probably not.
Happy Friday, and cake on!
